Perth Private Schools introduces George Anderson Walpole School in Kariong, for all your education and learning needs.
George Anderson Walpole School is situated within Kariong Juvenile Correctional Centre, a maximum security facility catering for A Classification young male offenders aged 16-21 years from across the state. At present we have two specific types of detainees: young offenders remanded and/or committed on serious indictable offences; and young offenders who have proven to be management problems in other centres and have been reclassified as A Classification detainees. There is an overrepresentation of Aboriginal students and a variety of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school is mindful of the fact that we are generally the last educational opportunity for these students and as such we need to develop a curriculum relevant to their needs and current situation. The majority of students have had negative experiences during previous schooling and can present with behavioural/emotional disorders and low self-esteem. Our ultimate aim is to equip students to re-enter society with increased chances for a successful life within the community. The curriculum thrust will develop in pupils the skills, attitudes and attributes needed for successful re-integration. The school is committed to providing quality programs, catering to individual needs, which promote responsible behaviours and lifestyle enabling students to develop strategies for making effective choices. We believe that in order for our school to meet the identified needs of our students we must work cooperatively with the staff of the centre in which our school operates.Welcome to George Anderson Walpole School one of the popular educators in your Kariong area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other's uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
